About Us

WHO WE ARE

Elthorne (first) Tenant Co-Operative is a resident (we have tenants, lease and free holders) managed Co-Operative and was set up in 1979.  On behalf of Islington Council, the Co-operative currently manages 139 properties which consist of 68 Lease- & Freeholders as well as 71 Tenanted units. The properties are housed within ten residential blocks and form together the Elthorne (first) Tenant Co-Operative which is part of Elthorne Estate, located in the London Borough of Islington.

The Co-operative takes a hands-on approach to housing management and has earned an excellent reputation through effective management with the emphasis on local administration. We continue to build on our relationship with the Islington Council and strive to provide an effective and efficient service through both value for money and regular cost review exercises. This has become more important than ever before as local governments are seeking to save cost. While the current cost conscious environment has put a strain on resources, it has also made the Co-operative more streamlined and cost efficient.

The Co-operative takes a pro-active approach to managing rent arrears to safeguards the financial stability of our organisation. It has therefore employed a part-time assistant who closely monitors rent arrears. Lyn Tuckfield is our Finance/Rent Arrears Officer and her position is funded by Islington Council. She is employed on a service contract.

Elthorne 1st furthermore employs an Office Manager, Michelle Small and  full time Caretaker Scott Paton.

Elthorne 1st Tenant Co-Op is registered as a Limited Company, No. IP2259R, with the Financial Conduct Authority under the Co-Operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014

THE PEOPLE AND THE AREA

Elthorne estate is home to a diverse population and many of our residents have been living on our estate for a very long time. Islington’s population itself has become more ethnically diverse in recent years and this has brought a greater contrast to our neighbourhood, with areas of huge affluence and privilege next to areas of severe deprivation.

Our Estate is close to Archway tube station and in close proximity to good transport links to the rest of Islington and the whole of London.  The recent redevelopment has brought huge improvements to Archway and we continue to see changes in this community. The modernisation has also created improvements for both pedestrians as well as cyclists. Archway enjoys shopping and leisure facilities as well as restaurants and cafes.
